{Friday Faves} An Ode to Sex And The City
Friday, May 28th, 2010 by admin
They say sequals are never as good, but SATC 2 could be the worst movie ever made and I wouldn’t care. If there is one thing you can count on with the series, it’s amazing fashion. Here is a little collage to refresh your memory with looks from seasons and movie pasts. The incredible thing is that all of them are still relevant today. Well, maybe not a pink tulle tutu in the streets of Manhattan, but it was the look that started a movement. Can not wait to see the movie! Have a great long weekend!

Top 10 Summer Essentials
Thursday, May 27th, 2010 by admin
Summer is officially in full swing, and so I put together a list of the top ten pieces to get you through the crazy, and sometimes lazy, days of summer.

1. A great work dress that can take you from the office straight to a night out, or drinks on a patio.
2. A pop of color. Easiest done with accessories like this DKNY watch (it’s $50!), plus it gives a whole lot of personality to summer’s neutrals.
3. A neutral shoe is one of this season’s newest trends (if you ask me). Hello, it totally goes with everything. Just make sure your neutral shoe pick works with your skin tone.
4. Anything white, especially a great pair of white jeans, you can’t go wrong. If white jeans make you feel like a certain deli meat (sausage anyone?), opt for a wide leg pair, white dress, top, skirt, bag, scarf- whatever your fancy, it’s out there.
5. Straw bag. This Calypso one definitely fits the bill.
6. Make a statement with Lucite jewelry. How fun is the Alexis Bittar ring? It’s a great take on this trend and super unique. Love it.
7. An oversized hat to protect the skin you’re in. I love the sun as much as the next person, but at least protect your face! Tinted moisturizer anyone?
8. Summer scarves (solid and prints) are a great way to accessorize and stay warm in over air conditioned places.
9. A bathing suit you LOVE on, bikini, tankini, or one-piece.
10. An all purpose beach cover-up that can take you from the surf to a casual cafe.
For The Love of Shoes
Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 by admin
You always knew what your dress would look like, how your hair would fall and what color your bouquet would be, but what about your feet? Looking fabulous is all in the details, and although no one may actually see your shoes, they need to close up ready(see below), and so, they need to be fab. I am a shoe girl through and through so the close up shots of wedding shoes get me every time. Thanks to stylemepretty.com I was able to peruse tons of shoe pictures and picked some of my favorites. Even though you can not see the bride, her shoes tell you two things. First, they give you a glimpse into her personality and second, they prove that the days of basic white shoes are long gone!

Meet Me at The Oak
Tuesday, May 25th, 2010 by admin
Sorry for going MIA yesterday! My husband and I took a trip to Litchfield Plantation (top picture) on Pawley’s Island this past weekend for a wedding. I have to say it was truly one of the most beautiful and breath taking weddings I have been to. I happen to love unique looking trees (is that weird?) and these live oaks are just majestic, and post inspiring.

What’s better than a straw bag for summer? They go with just about everything, come in all shapes, sizes and colors, and happen to be readily available. My faves for today started as a search to find straw bags that made my heart skip a beat. What I found were tons of them, some of which looked quite similar, so I decided it was a perfect opportunity to share my faves and highlight a couple steals.
SPLURGE vs. STEAL

Your Wedding Dress, Post Wedding-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 by admin
In 5 years you may see yourself with 2.5 kinds and a house in the burbs with that all American white picket fence, but where do you see your wedding dress? I overheard a conversation about the fate of a wedding dress after the wedding and it got me thinking…just what are the ways one can reuse or recycle their dress? I would love any feedback or other ideas, as my dress is currently hanging in the closet at my parent’s house.
1. Preserve and save it for a your offspring. Obvious answer, yes, but preserving is expensive! And thus, my dress remains in a closet.
2. Dye it. This definitely depends on the shape of the dress and the fabric, but why not dye it chocolate brown, navy, grey or black and turn it into your go to for a black-tie affair?

{J.Crew}
3. Cut it off. Lop off the bottom half and turn it into a cocktail dress.

{Nicole MIller, Lela Rose, Priscilla of Boston Reverie, Monique Lhuillier, Nicole Miller}
4. Make something. Like pillows or a teddy bear.
5. Consign/ donate or recycle it. There are many brides who would love the chance to have their dream wedding dress, but just can’t afford it. Why not make someone else’s day? Site’s like ebay and The Recycled Bride make it easy to buy/sell online, or look for local second hand dress stores.
6. Trash it. Roll in the mud, dive in the ocean or climb a tree, just make sure to bring along your photographer so the moment is not wasted. Get other trash the dress ideas here.
7. Here is a really crazy idea…wear it again! Thanks to the little white dress being all the rage, go for it! This definitely works best, and is easiest, with shorter, simpler dresses. If the dress still feels too bridal have your tailor take off some or all of the beading and appliques. So ditch the bouquet, diamonds and pearls, grab a handful of turquoise beads and a snakeskin pump, or some gladiator sandals, chain necklaces and a statement ring. Have fun with it!
